Bruce Grant Tribute Posted

A web gallery version of a book honoring Bruce Grant created by Antoinette Gombeda, HonNEC, has been posted on the NECCC web site. Bruce Grant was a long time friend and member of the NECCC Board. He worked behind the scenes on the Equipment Committee for many many years.  This book was created from many photos sent to Antoinette in the hopes of bringing a smile to Bruce's face. The book is not only a tribute to Bruce, but a chronology of all that happens on an NECCC Conference weekend and the many friends we meet along the way.

Click to view the web gallery version of the book.

Hopefully looking at these pictures will inspire you to attend the next conference. Antoinette Gombeda, HonNEC, and Susan Mosser, FPSA, HonNEC, the co-chairs for the next conference scheduled for July 15-17, 2011, tell me that the programs have been selected and planning is well under way. Be sure to mark your calendar and keep reading NECCC News. We will bring you updated information on the conference as it become available.

Deadline for Courtesy Enrollment Approaching

Each year NECCC allows each member club to select one of their camera club members to receive free registration to the next annual Summer Conference held at the University of Massachusetts. The next conference is scheduled for July 15-17, 2011. The free registration, however, only covers the registration fee. The recipient will be responsible for his or her own room, meals, and transportation. The following rules apply:

  1. Candidates must be at least eighteen years of age as of July 1, 2011.
  2. A candidate must be a member of an NECCC member Club in good standing (i.e. dues paid for the current year).
  3. Candidates must have never attended a previous NECCC conference.
  4. Selection of the candidate will be the responsibility of the individual clubs.
  5. Applications should be made by email from the club President. Applications will not be accepted after the deadline (March 1, 2011).
  6. The application cannot be transferred to another person. Once someone has been submitted, accepted and has received the key paper work, that person must register for the conference. If he/she cannot attend, another person cannot take his/her place. The club’s courtesy enrollment for that year will be forfeited.
  7. NECCC decision in all matters relating to this courtesy enrollment will be final.

If you are president or NECCC representative of a member club, now is the time to start the process to select someone from your club to receive this valuable opportunity.  If you qualify and are interested in being considered, talk to your club president or NECCC representative.

Southwest Florida Workshop

Shiv Verma, well known to New England photographers for his many programs, workshops, and membership on the NECCC Executive Board, will be conducting a workshop in south western Florida from Feb. 18th through the 23rd. If winter is starting to get to you, this is the cure.

Florida is famous for bird photography, and the south west has some of the best bird photography opportunities in the state. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island, Little Estero Lagoon, and the Venice Rookery are among the locations that will provide participants with plenty of great opportunities to capture great wildlife images.

The days of the workshop will be based on a very flexible schedule allowing the group to respond to the opportunities based on wildlife, weather, and light conditions for the best experience each day. Each day will start early to capture images in the best light.  The group will photograph throughout the morning, breaking at midday for lunch and open discussion sessions. After lunch they will head out for more photography, concluding near sunset, or after, based on location. Each evening the group will meet, download images, and have a feedback session. Instruction sessions will be included as will a prep session for the next day.

A block of rooms has been reserved at discounted rates at the Holiday Inn in Fort Myers Beach.

Full details of this workshop and reservation forms are available for download at http://web.me.com/s.verma/svphotoblog/Workshops.html.
