37th Greater Lynn International Exhibition

The 2013 Greater Lynn International Exhibition showcase will be shown at Greater Lynn headquarters,564 Boston St. Lynn, Ma 01905, on Sunday afternoon, April 7, 2013 at 2 PM and on Monday night, April 8, 2013 at 7:30 PM.

This years exhibition had 1405 entrants with over 5600 images, from 31 states and 65 different countries. While our New England club participation remained about the same this exhibition saw an increase in foreign club participation with submissions from clubs in Japan and Brazil as well as the usual countries of China, Russia, Poland, Turkey, Iran, and nine other countries. The club from China which won the largest club medal last year with sixty-three entrants submitted seventy-five entrants this year.

For the first time in our exhibition history we had a tie for the Best Club Medal between Cape Cod Viewfinders  (MA) and Gateway Camera Club (MA). Over 350 entrants came from New England Clubs who were all trying to win the best club medal.

Please join us to see this spectacular array of images from all four corners of the earth. This years exhibition has some very unique and dramatic images in it. After the show we will present the Medals to those winners who are in attendance, and catalogs to those of you in attendance who entered the exhibition..

The multi-media showcase is being put together by a Greater Lynn talented audio-visual producer, Barbara Rozavsky, MNEC. A master of music selection, her theme segments are a joy to hear and watch. She always matches the images to the music perfectly. The show will run approximately 90 minutes with a short intermission. It will contain about 1700 of the higher scoring images that were "accepted into the exhibition" by the judging panel, Elizabeth Keery,APSA, MNEC of Florida, Michael Di Stefano, MNEC of RI, and Jacob Mosser, FPSA, EPSA, HonNEC of MA.

Creative iPhone Photography Workshop in Plymouth, MA

Sat, May 4th, or Sunday, May 5th 2013. 9am - 4:30pm
Great location at a private bird sanctuary overlooking the bluffs of Cape Cod Bay in Manomet, Plymouth.
$140 before April 1st midnight, after that $150 per person.  Small class size, individual attention.

Workshop is taught by master iPhoneographer Rad A. Drew from Indianapolis. Have you noticed the many stunning photographs being made with the iPhone? Want to learn how you can turn your iPhone into a more creative tool?

The new iPhones do an amazing job of capturing images and have made the creation and processing of images more fun (and more portable) than ever before. Many traditional point and shoot cameras, and even the DSLRs of professionals, are giving way to the iPhone. But, do you know how to take your images to the next level and to effectively use available iPhone apps to create images that no one would guess were taken AND processed with your iPhone?

Agon & Orchis: Ballet Inspired by Photography

By Dennis Goulet, MNEC

The Festival Ballet Providence will perform two ground-breaking ballets on March 8-10, 2013 at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Providence. Agon was first performed in 1957 and broke ground with new music by Stravinsky. Orchis, on the other hand, is a newly created ballet whose inspiration is the photography of Rhode Island photographer A. Cemal Ekin. Noticing that his images of dried orchids looked very much like ballet dancers, he approached the Festival Ballet with the notion of a ballet based on his orchid images. Starting from the collection of photographs, music was written and the dance choreographed. The choreographer, ViKtor Plotnikov, is working with Cemal as he organizes the images into a slide show that runs the entire length of the dance; the images and timing coordinated with the movements of the dancers. Cemal has donated his time (many hundreds of hours) to making this unique ballet a success.

I’ve seen roughly half of the slide show and can assure you it is something entirely different, and will be rear-projected on a16 x 20 foot screen on stage with the dancers.

You can read more about the evolution of Orchis, see images of the dancers in rehearsal, and save 15% on your ticket price by reading the posts on Cemal’s website, Kept Light Photography.
