Nikon Ambassador Kristi Odom will present the keynote address “The Power and Passion of Photography” Saturday at the 74th Annual NECCC Photography Conference (July 12-14 2019)

Nikon Ambassador Kristi Odom
will present the keynote address
“The Power and Passion of Photography”
Saturday at the 74th Annual NECCC Photography Conference (July 12-14 2019)

As story collectors sometimes we become the story.  How we got the shot, the journey, our passions, even close calls with life itself.  In this presentation, Nikon Ambassador, Kristi Odom will take you diving with whale sharks, head to head with charging grizzly bears, up close with spiders, hanging from ropes, all in a quest to capture the beauty in a fraction of a second.  Get ready for a night of the action behind capturing her iconic award-winning images.

About Kristi…
An internationally acclaimed photographer and sought-after motivational speaker, Kristi travels the world shooting, teaching and sharing her insights. From destination weddings in Thailand to conservation projects in the jungles of Borneo, she's always on the move, always ready to connect with others. When she was 16 years old, Kristi Odom, picked up her grandfather’s camera and fell in love with the beauty of the natural world. Ever since then she has been driven to capture what’s real, raw, and compelling about the people and animals she photographs. Now, as an internationally acclaimed photographer, a Nikon Ambassador and sought-after motivational speaker, Kristi makes her home in Washington DC, and travels the world shooting, teaching, and sharing her insights so she can help make our planet a better, more loving place. From destination weddings in Thailand to conservation projects in the jungles of Borneo she is always on the move, and always ready to connect with others through her love for photography and Mother Earth.
Kristi’s first assignments centered around shooting musicians, and the more she shot, the more she focused on emotional moments. Over the years those emotional moments have become the photographs that define her style. Whether she’s documenting a couple in love, or a spider monkey mourning the loss of her mother, her compassion for her subjects shines through and is fundamental to her work.
With presentations created for Nikon, WPPI, Fearless, and the Georgia Institute of Technology among others, Kristi teaches photographers to focus on improving their work through creating an emotional connection, and to give back through personal projects. Her accolades include a Master’s accreditation from WPPI, and over 60 international photography awards including 2 Nature's Best Photography awards and 26 Fearless awards. Her recent work has been exhibited twice at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.

some testimonials from last year...

I could not have asked for a more cultural documentary photographer "rock star" than Ira Block. Not only is he a phenomenal photographer but a thoughtful teacher. Not all great shooters can instruct well. He is firm in his criticism while being cognizant of the student's emotional investment in the work. Having a photo walk with the same reviewer was a terrific added bonus because I could ask process questions in the field. (This was a bargain) as a 70-minute review with Ira is normally $250.00, so I truly appreciate his time and commitment to NECCC attendees.

I am a beginner--have owned a camera for less than a year--and certainly don't have what I would call a "portfolio."  But I signed up for the review anyway.  Put some images on a USB. He made very useful suggestions and showed me how a couple of photos could be improved just by judicious cropping.  You don't have to be an experienced photographer, or have competition level photos to benefit from the image critique.  It was a very useful way to start the conference, I thought.

My critique was wonderful She took her time to give me both positive feedback and some suggestions that would improve my images It certainly was a highlight of my conference experience Sarah puts you at ease immediately and builds your confidence with her positive feedback 😃 I would definitely sign up for the pre conference critique the next time I attend.

He spends about a quarter of each year sleeping in his truck or on the ground, stumbling around in the dark, eating bad food and avoiding showers.
