Wanted: Photography photo ops, programs, workshops, etc. from the New England Region

Wanted: Photography photo ops, programs, workshops, etc. from the New England Region

The New England Camera Club Council (NECCC) is a non-profit umbrella group for >84 camera clubs (2 of which are meetups, we hope for more meetup groups to join NECCC) in the New England states (Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont).

There is soooo much going on the the New England region and we want to share it with everyone. Seminars, workshops, camera club programs, outside speakers, Canon Explorers of Light, photo ops, -- and first hand information providing updates on seasonal shooting (sunflowers, spring flowers, fall foliage). Let's SHARE

In this day of social media "we" (photographers) should be sharing upcoming photography with each other so everyone can know about them and choose to participate.

The NECCC Blog and Facebook site are wonderful places to share what is going on photographically in the New England Region. Please have your club representative and/or publicity person contacting me with information about your club's events, programs, seminars, etc. you are offering. If you have a first hand update on a seasonal event we would like that too (how are the Sunflowers at Buttonwood farm, are the daffodils peak, how is the fall foliage, etc.)

Email me, Lisa, at photographer67 [@] comcast.net, with "for the NECCC Blog" in the subject line and we will let the entire New England area know about the photo op or your club's event!

Let's rock the New England region with an abundance of shared information and opportunities!!

Jon Kral Master Artist Equine Photography

Horses stir something in our souls. In this weekend master artist workshop award-winning photographer Jon Kral will share his life-long work with horses and guide you through his techniques and artistry for capturing these beautiful and charismatic animals. The workshop will take you from classroom to stable to field –turning your love of horses into creative photographs. Jon will explain light, best technical practices and editing ideas. Students should have a good understanding of their camera in manual mode. This is an intermediate level class.
“There is an inherent nature in horses that draws people to them. Perhaps it is their beauty or their spirit. Or maybe that even in domestication, in their souls, they remain wild and free.” Jon Kral

Jon Kral was raised on the edge of cattle country in Ft. Pierce, FL. He developed a love for the land and its heritage which led him to begin seriously documenting it in 1983. That work eventually became his first book, CRACKER; FLORIDA’S ENDURING COWBOYS. Already a photojournalist on the international scene, Kral photographed during the (first) Gulf War and the Intifada in Jerusalem and the West Bank. His documentation of the inhumane prison conditions in Caracas, Venezuela led to the closing of one maximum-security facility and earned him a Pulitzer Prize finalist ranking. His work infiltrating and documenting youth gangs in the South yielded him the respected Robert F. Kennedy Award. Kral recently retired from the newspaper business, an award-winning 32-year veteran street shooter, five-time Pulitzer nominee, with 18 years at The Miami Herald, to focus on his freelance career. Kral lives in Boone, North Carolina.

Shooters Gallery photography Group Upcoming Events

Hi My Name is Jeannette from the Shooters Gallery photography group.  Here are a few things that are going on in CT. Thanks, Jeannette

Birds as Art: Photography of Arthur Morris

I noticed you are promoting an Arthur Morris & Denise Ippolito workshop in Salibury, CT on Sept 28.
Arthur Morris is opening an exhibition at The Museum of American Bird Art that should be particularly interesting to your group.
Birds as Art: The Photography of Arthur Morris will open in Canton on September 29, 2013.

Here’s some information on Arthur which you may already be familiar with.

Arthur Morris is a free-lance nature photographer and writer specializing in birds. He is widely recognized as the world’s premier bird photographer and as one of the top nature photography educators of his time. In his books and on his web site and blog his record of sharing his photographic and avian knowledge is un-matched. Arthur Morris has been a contract photographer with Canon’s “Explorers of Light” since 1995.  More than 20,000 of Artie’s images have been published in American Birds, Audubon, Birding, Birder’s World, Bird Watcher’s Digest, Duck’s Unlimted, Florida Wildlife and Nature, Living Bird, National Geographic, Natural History, Nature Photographer, Outdoor Photographer, PHOTOgraphic, Ranger Rick, Wildbird, and in counteless other magazines, as well as in hundreds of books and calendars. More than 150 photo-illustrated feature articles by and about him have appeared in a wide variety of publications worldwide.

He will be in Canton teaching a workshop on September 30th and then hosting a free lecture at Canton High School on Oct 1st.

I’m looking for the best way to spread the word.    Maybe you could post this to your site? It really is quite exciting to have him in Canton MA for an exhibition and workshops.

Here is a link to his site.  www.birdsasart.com

7:45 – 9:00 pm: Program with Sally Matson
Margaret Bourke-White, ground-breaking photojournalist from the 1930's - 1950's, will come to life in a living history performance by actor Sally Matson.
Margaret Bourke-White made sure she was "in the right place at the right time."  She was the first photographer for Fortune magazine;  A newspaper headline read, "GIRL'S PHOTOGRAPHS OF STEEL MANUFACTURE HAILED AS NEW ART."   She was the first Western photographer allowed into Russia in 1930 and she had the cover of the inaugural issue of Life magazine in 1936.  Her collaboration on a book with Erskine Caldwell documenting poverty in the South changed her focus to the people behind the machines.
Matson has received the rights to display many of Bourke-White's photos, including the Louisville Flood and its victims, the 1941 Nazi attack on Moscow, Stalin, the discovery of Buchenwald, and Gandhi with his spinning wheel.
Upon graduation from Northwestern University, Matson performed for the Department of Defense in the Pacific.  Moving from state to state for her husband's career, Matson took writing courses at the University of Virginia extension and Manhattanville College.  She wrote and hosted programs for Connecticut Cable Television and has acted and directed for forty years.  Research for the program was conducted at Syracuse University.  Matson has performed as Susan B. Anthony-the Invincible!  since 2002.
Performances of  Margaret Bourke-White, Courageous Photographer  in 2013 include:  Manchester Library- Vermont; Pollard Library- Lowell, MA;  Memorial Hall Library-Andover, MA, and Photographers Forum of Nashua, NH.

NANPA Road Show Seminar - Maine

NANPA Roadshow: Learning from the Masters of Photography (Maine)
NANPA Road Show Seminar - Maine
October 12, 2013
Thomaston, ME
Speakers: Ron Rosenstock & Paul Caponigro
Topic: Learning from the Masters of Photography
Details and registration..

By visiting major museums world wide, it becomes obvious who the "Masters of Photograph" are. The tradition of photography as fine art has numerous "Masters" including Alfred Stieglitz, Edward Weston, Minor White and Paul Caponigro. Modern photographers often know little of the origins of fine art photography, and less as to what can be learned from the "Masters of Photography."

This NANPA Road Show will give participants an opportunity to gain insight into what has motivated the Masters. Paul Caponigro has agreed to share his thoughts about how he makes his photographs and then respond to questions.

I will also share my insights as to what has motivated me since my first workshop with Minor White in 1967. I'd like to share the greatest learning experiences I've had working with Minor White and also with Paul Caponigro, back in the early 1970's.

I'll address topics such as what the "Masters of Photography" share in common. What keeps the flame of creativity burning brightly? What creates the need to create? What are the major differences between Silver and digital photography?

Attendees will gain insight and inspiration and will therefore formulate there own photographic goals with greater clarity. Online Registration is now open!

We would like to have a website address (preferably), or an e-mail address as links from each club's listing. If you have a website and are on the list below, please email me the URL. If you don't have a website, I can have a link pop up an email form for inquiries to be sent to an email address of your choosing. In this case, please send me an email address (if it's not yours, please make sure the recipient has given permission) that a visitor can click on to get more information about your club. Having a link to your club helps draw new members. I will forward your info to the Membership Chairman James Dionne, MNEC (jimski42@gmail.com) but in the future, please send all changes to him and he’ll forward them to me to update the website. Thank you.

NECCC also wants to announce Photography photo ops, programs, workshops, etc. from the New England Region on the NECCC blog http://necccnews.blogspot.com/. There is soooo much going on in the New England region and we want to share it! Seminars, workshops, camera club programs, outside speakers, Canon Explorers of Light, photo ops, -- and first hand information providing updates on seasonal shooting (sunflowers, spring flowers, fall foliage). Let's SHARE! In this day of social media "we" (photographers) should be sharing upcoming photography with each other so everyone can know about them and choose to participate. The NECCC Blog and Facebook site are wonderful places to share what is going on photographically in the New England Region. Please have your club representative and/or publicity person contact me with information about your club's events, programs, seminars, etc. that you are offering. If you have a first hand update on a seasonal event we would like that too (how are the Sunflowers at Buttonwood farm, are the daffodils peak, how is the fall foliage, etc.). Email me at photographer67@comcast.net with "for the NECCC Blog" in the subject line and we will let the entire New England area know about the photo op or your club's event! Let's rock the New England region with an abundance of shared information and opportunities!!
