Dynamic Images SummerCon – Evolution of a Photoshoot

Dynamic Images SummerCon – Evolution of a Photoshoot

A day of learning from the beginning of an idea through the finished capture. Go behind the scenes with accomplished photographers to see how they approach and create compelling images. The process begins long before the shutter button is pressed, and decisions made early can have a major impact on the final image.

We had a lot of praise for our model shoots at the Dynamic Images Photo Conferences. Those photo shoots were designed to give everyone a chance to get some great and interesting shots without having to worry about the planning, lighting, setups, models, and everything else. However, many have asked for more details on the setups and how we created them. This is your chance to learn from the creators and how they came up with unique setups to convey a desired look.

In this full-day workshop, we’ll spend the morning dissecting several photo shoots and show how an idea can successfully be translated into a great photo session. Learn how early planning can help lead to a stress-free shoot which will allow you to concentrate on being more creative. Throughout the day we’ll show a few ways you can obtain a big dollar lighting look on a tight budget by applying some simple lighting concepts. We will be using a combination of moderate cost studio lights, speed lights, and DIY gear to show that you don’t need the most expensive equipment to create an expensive look.

Lunch is offsite, and the cost is included with registration.

In the afternoon, we will break into smaller groups to shoot several models and tweak the sets. You will have the opportunity to photograph at each of the three setups using the knowledge gained in the morning, working with your group to adjust the setup and lighting and the effects it will have on the photograph. Each of the sets will have a significantly different look and we will explain the lighting intentions for each and how it is used to change the mood of the final image. This will also be a great time to ask any questions that you may have. See first-hand how small details can have a big impact on the photograph.

By the end of the day, you’ll know a lot more about how to capture outstanding images of your subject whether it is a friend, a model or your Aunt Mable. And bring your lighting questions.
What to bring: Your camera and your preferred lenses ranging in focal length from about 24 to 200mm. Your camera will need to have a hot shoe in order to use the flash triggers (contact us if yours does not), most DSLR and mirrorless cameras have them. You can bring your own Pocket Wizard if you have one, but we will have a few to use during the day. Bring memory cards with ample space and don’t forget to charge your camera batteries! Tripods will not be used during this event.

App for the NECCC 2018 Photograph Conference

The 73rd Annual Photography NECCC Conference has an APP !!! http://tinyurl.com/NECCC2018

I recently presented a program at Stonybrook Camera Club. They are a very enthusiastic group of people and during dinner, before the program, they had a bunch of suggestions for the NECCC photography conference. Not all of their suggestions could be implemented for the 73rd annual conference, but I did manage to run with one of their ideas -- an app.

You can download this app to have the campus maps, schedule, photo ops, female and character models, social media contest etc. at your disposal. We would suggest doing this at home so you can be sure of wifi access; once downloaded you can use the app without internet.

As everyone has different levels of experience here are some basic instructions
  1. Click on the link http://tinyurl.com/NECCC2018
  2. Press your homepage once and click "add to home screen" (see screenshot below)
    1. Note that if you have a lot of apps then this NECCC app will be placed in the next open slot, which could mean that you have to scroll to the right...
  3. You can click on any of the images and make them larger and zoom/scroll
  4. At the bottom of the app, there is an online gallery where you can also save these as JPGs directly to your smartphone, iPAD, etc.
Screenshot, click that little rectangle with the arrow, then click add to home screen. Note that if you have a lot of apps then this NECCC app will be placed in the next open slot, which could mean that you have to scroll to the right...

From the gallery at the bottom you can click on the images online (these are larger versions) and you can download them to your iPad, smartphone, etc. by clicking on the down arrow and selecting save image (you can also share them on social media)
