Wildlife and Nature Photography Contest
Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, located on Plum Island in Newburyport, MA is conducting its first ever wildlife and nature photography contest. Contest categories include Native Wildlife, Native Flowers and Plants, and Landscapes. Photographic prints, which will be accepted from amateur or professional photographers, may be submitted to one of two age groups: Youth (up to age 17) and Adult (age 18 and older). All contest photographs must have been taken within the boundary of Parker River National Wildlife Refuge and/or on Plum Island after January 1, 2010. The contest submission deadline is Friday, September 30, 2011.
Contest entries will be judged by a panel of local photographers. Winners will be announced and awards made during a reception on Sunday, October 9th at the Refuge visitor center in Newburyport. Grand prize for “Best of Show” is a one day photography workshop with acclaimed nature photographer Steven Morello. Contest winners will be on exhibit at the visitor center through the fall.

Our webmaster, Rick Sereque, APSA, HonNEC, has been busy posting new items on the NECCC Internet site in spite of an extended period without power and Internet access.

Susan Mosser, FPSA, HonNEC, Honored by Griffin Museum of Photography
The NECCC community is pleased to learn that Susan Mosser, FPSA, HonNEC, has been honored by the Griffin Museum of Photography with its New England Beacon Award. This is one of three awards to be presented at the museumn's sixth Annual Focus Awards ceremony in October. The award is given each year to an individual whose work brings prominence to the local photographic scene.
Those of us who participate in photographic activities in the New England area all know of Susan's contributions. She has been conference chairman for several NECCC Summer Conferences, exhibition chairman for the Greater Lynn Photographic Association's International, program chairman for the Yankee Photographic Society, plus many other contributions over the last 30 years too numerous to mention.
It is also worthy to note that the article about Susan appears as the very first article on the newly created News page of the NECCC web site. Click to read the complete article as well as the news release from the Griffin Museum.

Denise Ippolito Workshop in CT
On Sunday, September 11, 2011, Denise Ippolito will present a workshop entitled Macro, Blurs and Creative Filtering sponsored by the New Haven Camera Club. The workshop will take place from 2:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon either in Brandord or Milford, Connecticut, depending on the number of people who sign up. To sign up contact Lisa Cuchara at photographer67@comcast.net. The cost of the workshop is $100 per person. The fee will include a copy of Denise's book A Guide to Creative Filters & Effects.
Denese Ippolito is a freelance photographer, artist, and writer living in New Jersey. She offers on-line courses as well as half day workshops featuring avian, macro, and HDR photography.
