Advertise at the 75th annual NECCC photo conference!

This July will be NECCC’s 75th Anniversary conference.

To celebrate this achievement we will be accepted for the first time, advertisements from speakers, workshops, companies, vendors, private individuals, and member clubs. The advertisements will be located in the full-color 200-page speaker notes available to all attendees online or by printed copy.
  • The ad should be in color and come in PDF or JPeg format. Available to purchase will be full, half, and quarter -page ad space.
  • The due date will be Mid-April.

You are also invited to support NECCC and your club by buying a congratulatory ad. The ad should be of your own design perhaps with your club logo and a few words about the club such as location, years of membership, etc. Prices have not been set yet but will be very reasonable even for small clubs. The due date will be Mid April. This gives you lots of time to discuss this with your BOD and prepare an advertisement that represents your club. We will be sending out an email blast to all club reps and presidents when the prices are set along with a form to fill out and send in with the ad.

Photodex is closing its doors as of January 31; Photopia is the next generation of slideshow software.

You may have already heard, but Photodex is closing its doors as of January 31. Their website will go inactive and users will no longer be able to get the latest version of the programs that they have purchased if they need to do a reinstall for something like a new computer or a hard drive problem.

We’ve tried to notify folks at GLPA to go to the Photodex site and get a screenshot of their program key and download the latest version of the last program they bought just so they will have it in reserve in case.

The ProShow programs will continue to work (it is not like they self destruct on 1/31/2020, but they will continue to work until Microsoft makes some change to Windows that messes things up).

The suggested replacement software is subscription only and costs $10 a month or $100 a year for the basic version (or $25 a month or $250 a year for the pro version). They are also working on a MAC version. You are supposed to be able to “suspend” your subscription if you aren’t using the program so the days you bought aren’t running off, but lord knows how that will work in practice. https://photopia.nl/pausing-subscriptions

Rick

Note from Lisa. I did download the free trial of the replacement program (I tried both, but only need Creator). It looks and acts a lot like ProShow Gold (some of the same software developers made it) -- and you can import all of your ProShow Gold shows into it.

Photopia is the next generation of slideshow software. Created by some of the original developers of ProShow, Photopia takes slideshow creation to all new heights.
All new from the ground-up, Photopia was built using many of the ideas Photodex had developed for the next generation of ProShow. With Photodex's blessings, Photopia has taken these ideas and created something that will be instantly familiar to ProShow users while also taking a major leap forward. Photopia Creator and Director can import slideshows, effects, and other content from ProShow Gold or Producer.
Photopia has tons of incredible new features and reimagines how slideshow software should work. It is compatible with your existing ProShow files - you can load existing shows, use your Slide Styles and templates, and more.

Infrared Post Processing with Silvana Della Camera

Infrared Post Processing  with  Silvana Della Camera

So, you have an infrared converted camera or shoot with infrared filters. There is more to extract from that funky infrared RAW image than just black and white. Regardless of which wavelength(s) your images are photographed in, much more can be obtained from the raw image.

We will start by setting up your workflow and identify best practices to handle infrared raw images. You will learn how to properly set the white balance in camera as well as setting it properly during post processing. You will learn how and why infrared photography is another creative tool in your photographic toolbox.
You will need Photoshop, and some knowledge of layers. Please bring your laptops with the Photoshop installed.  Also, if available, bring a couple of your own infrared images in RAW. Not a Photoshop user? Not a problem. Contact me for alternate software you can use to process infrared.
I will be providing images that we will use for practice, information on the challenges of working with infrared images. You will also receive materials with step by step instructions and video tutorials.

Coastal Camera Club "A Day of Photography Inspiration and Education" March 28th

A Day of Photography Inspiration and Education

The Coastal Camera Club continues our annual "A Day of Photography Inspiration and Education" seminars aimed at photographers of all levels who are interested in learning more about their craft from noted subject matter experts. This year CCC presents “A Day of Photography Inspiration and Education” on March 28, 2020. The event will be held at the Lewes Presbyterian Church, 133 Kings Hwy, Lewes, DE 19958.

The program is free to all attendees. There is $5.00 Suggested Donation for all attendees that may be given at the event. The Coastal Camera Club wishes to give back to the community in which we live. The free tickets are for the entire day, the morning session only, or the afternoon session only.
All we ask is that you register using Eventbrite. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/a-day-of-photography-inspiration-and-education-tickets-88726339871

For the morning session, this year's speaker will be Nikhil Bahl, a full time professional photographer, author, educator, workshop instructor and environmentalist residing in the Washington DC area. Drawing inspiration from nature, Nikhil adopts novel approaches and seeks meaningful interpretations to create photographs that transcend the commonplace, reflect deeper insights, and convey an enchantment of the subject's beauty. His three hour presentation during the morning's session is certain to inspire everyone.

The afternoon session will be the Best of Delaware PSA Print Competition with the Photographic Society of America (PSA) as described below. Nikhil Bahl will be one of the guest judges.
The 2020 Erik Kissa Memorial Medal, a PSA Gold Level Medal, will be awarded in the third annual Best of Delaware print competition. If you are a PSA member living in Delaware, you are invited to enter this competition. The award honors Dr. Kissa's belief that the greatest value of competition is as a learning tool, and everyone in attendance at the “Day of Photography - Inspiration & Education” can be a part of this and learn from it. Even if you are not a member of PSA, you are welcome to attend and participate in the interactive discussion with the judges.
If you are interested in entering the photo competition to be held in the afternoon, please be aware of the following:

  • You must be a current member of PSA, living in Delaware
  • No advance registration is required, but you must be present to participate
  • Eligible attendees are asked to bring up to 3 prints no larger than 16x20”, including the mat
  • Prints will be accepted from 9:00am to 9:50AM and from 1:00pm to 1:50PM.

Throughout the day there will be a flea market with photography equipment and related materials available for purchase.

We will start from the very beginning by setting up your painting workspace, loading and setting options for the brushes, and using of the mixer brush with different photoshop brushes for distinctive effects. You will learn how to paint a background from your image and different ways to change this up. Then we will complete a simple image from start to finish.

You will need to have Photoshop, preferably the most recent version, and some knowledge of selections and layers. Please bring your laptops with the latest version of Photoshop CC installed and a tablet if you have one.

I will be providing an image that we will use for practice, information on downloading brushes and some other preconference materials. You will also receive the complete PowerPoint presentation loaded with step by step instructions and video tutorials.

Everything you know about tripods and ball heads is about to change.

Check out this week's announcement from Platypod and visit www.Platyball.com

Their Kickstarter campaign launches on Jan 15 and there's a special bonus for early backers. What a kick!

The Kickstarter campaign launches on Jan 15 on The Grid. Larry T. will be Scott's guest along with Don Komarechka. The show starts at 4:00 and the Platyball Kickstarter video and announcement should kick off at 4:30. It's a pretty remarkable product. Here's a general description...

The Platyball presents a new, revolutionary way to level.  Featuring an inverted design, single handed ergonomics and a unique twist-action Arca compatible clamp, we have literally taken the classic tripod head design and turned it upside down.  Redesigned from the ground up, the Platyball becomes an extension of your hand and allows you to quickly level your camera better than ever before. It is heavy duty and accurate to 0.5 a degree.
