As a follow up to the Gordon Parks Celebration in 2023, the Valley Photo Center will celebrate to work of Walker Evans.  We have invited UK photographer, Stephen Leslie, to do the lecture about Walker Evans on October 6  The Sunday celebration and lecture is free and open to the public thanks to a genourus grant by the Springield Cultural Commission. Light refreshments will be provided. Although the event is free we would like people to get tickets in advance to help in our planning. Call For Images

Walker Evans Photo Contest Free to Enter As part of the Valley Photo Center Walker Evans Celebration, we are sponsoring an Evan’s themed photography contest. The Metropolitan Museum of Art wrote that Evans was “the progenitor of the documentary tradition in American photography.” Entries should be inspired by his work and will be judged by London based street photographer, Stephen Leslie, who will be in the United States to do a street photography workshop on Saturday October 5, 2024 for a small fee and give a lecture about Walker Evans on Sunday October 6, 2024 for the Valley Photo Center that is free and open to the public. Digital entries for the contest are open now and will be accepted until midnight on September 24, 2024. The finalists will be printed for a Valley Photo Center gallery show. There will be award ribbons many prizes including books, photo equipment, and a Canon ink jet printer . Entries can be submitted by going to: https://mycameraclub.com/valley-photo-center and clicking on Sign In at the top right-hand sign of the member bar, If you aren’t already a member you can join for free. Once you sign in go to the Club Activity box on the home page to find the contest.

Street Photo Workshop

 Street Photo Workshop

The Valley Photo Center, Springfield, Massachusetts, is sponsoring a street photography workshop at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 5, 2024.

The workshop will include a lecture by Stepen Leslie about street photography and a participant portfolio review. The program will cost $110.00 and space is limited so please sign up early. If you sign up before September 30, 2024 you’ll get a 10% discount so it will only cost $99.00.

Stephen Leslie is a photographer, writer and film maker from London. He has over 25 year’s experience both in the UK and on extensive travels abroad. His work has feature in numerous magazine and websites, including The Guardian, The Observer, Lensculture, Cup, Huck, Eyeshot, Seen, Framelines, Eric Kim, The Photoblographer, Time Out, C41, ALU, Streetphotography.com, Wonders of Photography, On Spot Gallery, and 121 Clicks.
