Winter in Newburyport photo contest

Announcing the first annual Winter in Newburyport photo contest.  This contest is open to all photographers and will be judged in two age categories, adult and young adult.  The young adult category is age 16 and under.  Photos should be either landscape, or a local landmark.

The winner in each of these categories will receive a $50.00 Newburyport Gift Certificate.  In addition, the winning photo will be matted and framed by Harborframes, Custom Frame Shop of Newburyport and then proudly displayed in the Newburyport Post Office lobby.

All photos must be taken in Newburyport, Newbury, or Salisbury, and will need to include the location of the photo.  Photographers may submit up to 3 photos, and the preferred size is 8 x 10".

Open to every NECCC club member, two photography contests with cash prizes announced by CCAA

NECCC member Cape Cod Art Association, through its Photography Center of Cape Cod, has announced two different online photography competitions with cash prizes, one for adults and one for Massachusetts high school students. All camera club members (see contest #1) and Massachusetts high school students (see contest #2) are encouraged to check them out and participate. Important to every entrant: there are no rules in these two competitions that infringe upon a photographer's rights or jeopardize ownership of entered images.

CONTEST #1: Doors, Gates and Windows of the World

Doors, Gates and Windows: What is on the other side? All over the world, doors, gates and windows look different, show the culture of the country but also offer the intrigue of what is on the other side of them...when we open a door or gate, what are we peering into? When we look outside a window, what do we see? This competition will be looking for the most creative representation of looking through to the other side.

Rick Sammon, a Canon Explorer of Light and one of the most active photographers on the planet, has photographed almost 100 destinations around the world. A prolific, award-winning author, Rick has published 36 books, including Secrets of HDR Photography, Exploring the Light and Digital Photography Secrets. His book Flying Flowers won the coveted Golden Light Award and his book Hide and See Under the Sea won the Ben Franklin Award. Rick co-founded the Digital Photography Experience podcast with Juan Pons and hosts several classes on KelbyTraining. He has been nominated for the Photoshop Hall of Fame and is considered one of today’s top digital imaging experts. In this informative seminar, Rick will use his newest people, wildlife, landscape and travel pictures from around the globe to show the difference between taking pictures andmaking pictures as he shares techniques, digital darkroom tips and photo philosophy. He'll cover seeing, controlling and playing with the light, HDR techniques, and creative composition learned over his many years as a professional photographer.

Flower Photography Seminar/Workshop in PA featuring denise ippolito ~ March 22, 23, 24 Sponsored by Hunts Photo For this seminar you will need to bring your camera, macro lens and tripod as we will be doing a shooting session in a classroom setting. Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops to follow along and also work with their images- processing them in Photoshop and enhancing them using Nik Software, OnOne Software, Topaz Labs, Fractalius and Snap Art (free downloads are available for each of the programs that we will be using and a list of software will be available at sign-up). The optional in-the-field workshop at Longwood Gardens in PA will be a great way to roll up your sleeves and apply all of your new techniques in the field. Longwood Gardens will be displaying their Orchid Extravaganza on Sunday, we will be photographing inside the conservatory which is HUGE!! Steam in the Snow

The Massachusetts Bay Rail Road Enthusiasts are sponsoring their annual “Steam in the Snow” departing from North Conway, New Hampshire promptly at 10:30 AM.  This is an event that has been setup for Photographers and will make 5 scenic stops along its route to and from Notchland. At the stops the train will back down the tracks and stage a pass-through for action shots.  You must purchase tickets for this event through MBRRE ($65.00 for non-MBRRE members) prior to the event and seats are limited.

To make reservations please call the MBRRE organizer at 978-470-2066.  If you get the answering device leave a message with a number at which you can be reached and the organizer will return your call within a couple of hours.  This is a sun, rain or snow event, it will not be canceled and there are no refunds on the tickets.  For more information you can go to www.massbayrre.org.  MBRRE provides a box lunch for an additional $12.00.

Hazel Meredith Awarded PSA Service Plaque

Hazel Meredith was awarded the Photographic Society of America (PSA) Service Plaque in 2012 for her meritorious service to the Society. The Service Plaque is awarded as a thank you in recognition of time freely given to ensure the success of the Society.

Hazel served as Camera Club Services Committee Chair before her present position as PSA Council Services Committee Chair. She is also the Camera Club & Council News Column Editor for the PSA Journal. In addition to her other PSA activities, she serves as Moderator for the Camera Club Sparkle.

PSA is a worldwide organization of both amateur and professional photographers, with members in over 70 countries. The PSA web site at www.psa-photo.org contains information about PSA, its activities, benefits, and membership opportunities.
