An every-other-year judging workshop for all photographers at NECCC-affiliated clubs across New England with CCAC Juried Master Fine Art Photographer and judge/commentator Bob Singer
9:00am-3:30pm, Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Cape Cod Art Center in Barnstable Village, MA
Fee: $50 (advanced registration is required; there is a small amount of pre-workshop prep)
Whether you aspire to become a judge/commentator or would just like to better understand what makes judges "tick," this one-of-a-kind, one-day judging/commenting workshop will prepare you for the judge's seat, build your confidence with a live, real-time scoring/critiquing experience and provide you with fresher, deeper understanding of how judges should “see” and think. Led by CCAA Juried Master Artist and Fine Art Photographer Bob Singer who has been a judge/commentator at PSA international salons, NECCC salons, camera clubs, art galleries and magazine competitions for over thirty years, this unique one-day workshop interactively involves you as it polishes your judging skills, understanding and insights.

Although it is geared for smartphone cameras and ideal for beginners, DSLRs and more experienced photographers are welcome as the workshop will cover the application of five historical principles used by fine art painters. The landscape at Weir Farm has inspired the creation of masterpieces for 137 years.

Award-Winning National Geographic Photographer and Producer to Speak on ‘The Mind, the Eye and the Heart of a Photographer’ at CT Valley Camera Club Meeting, June 4.
AREAWIDE: The guest speaker at the Monday, June 4 meeting of the Connecticut Valley Camera Club (CVCC) will be the acclaimed National Geographic Photographer and Producer Todd Gipstein, who will speak on “The Mind, the Eye and the Heart of a Photographer.” The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Lymes’ Senior Center, 26 Town Woods Rd., Old Lyme, Conn. All are welcome. There is no admission charge.
In his presentation, Gipstein will explore the art and artistry of photography. How do you become a good observer of life? How do you engage with people, places, animals? How do you document experiences in photographs? What makes a good photographer and a powerful photograph?
Gipstein will share insights from 50 years behind the camera shooting for documentary media. He hopes that his lecture, which is aimed at photographers of all levels of skill, will inspire listeners to immerse themselves in new experiences and find ways to capture them with a camera.
Todd Gipstein has been a photographer, writer, producer and lecturer for 50 years. He has worked with National Geographic since 1987. For many years he was the Geographic’s Director of Multi-Image and an Executive Producer of media. Todd’s work for National Geographic — including photography, producing shows, writing and lecturing — has taken him around the world.
His award-winning documentaries for the Geographic have dealt with a diverse range of topics, including photography, wildlife, the environment, history, exploration, travel, cultures, and National Geographic itself. His work is known worldwide for its evocative storytelling. His photographs have been published in National Geographic and Traveler magazines and in many books. His work has been exhibited internationally, and he often participates in photography and media festivals in Europe.
About the Connecticut Valley Camera Club (CVCC): The CVCC is dedicated to offering its membership the opportunity to become better photographers. The group offers a variety of presentations and interactive workshops to help members expand their technical and creative skills. Photographers of all levels of experience are welcomed. The club draws members from up and down the river, from Middletown to Old Saybrook; from East Hampton to Old Lyme; and along the shoreline from Guilford to Gales Ferry.
