Africa Photo Safari - Namibia & Botswana November 2-16 2013

Minimum of 9 and a maximum of 11 participants
The Namib Desert may well be the world's oldest desert. The Namib-Naukluft Park includes five main regions: Namib, Sandvis, Naukluft, Sesriem and Sossusvlei. The apricot-colored dunes at Sossusvlei are beautiful and photographic opportunities for landscapes abound. Herds of mountain zebra, gemsbok and springbok roam the area.
This is a flying safari to the primary reserves in Botswana utilizing charter flights between the camps.
Game viewing will be from 4x4 vehicles with a resident guide at each camp we visit. Every park has a unique ecosystem.
Our itinerary includes all privately owned camps giving us a distinct advantage.  We will not be subject to hundreds of tourists and slow traffic.  We will be able to drive off normal trails in pursuit of photo opportunities that present themselves and not be bound by National Park rules.
The Okavango Delta is a mutual blending of water and forested islands, joined by thousands of waterways that alter each year with the flood. Moremi is a prime game viewing area that includes a third of the Delta. The western reaches of Moremi include much of the Okavango while the e astern sector is mainly mopane woodland and open grassland.
Who should attend?
This is a photo safari for photographers of all skill levels.  Individual attention will be given to attendees, irrespective of experience or expectations. Digital and film shooters are most welcome.
The primary focus is to capture the wildlife of the region and the excellent landscapes.

Florence Griswold Museum Examines the Work of Walker Evans

The Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, Connecticut, presents an exhibition that uses new scholarship to examine the post-Depression era work of photographer Walker Evans. The Exacting Eye of Walker Evans is on view October 1, 2011 through January 29, 2012. Walker Evans (1903–1975) captured a place in American social, cultural, and artistic history with his unforgettable images of the Great Depression. The photographs, particularly those of rural Southern sharecroppers, launched his career and remain among the most iconic images of American art. His work in ensuing years, however, has been largely overlooked. This exhibition recovers Evans’ post-Depression work by tracing the thread of his recurring artistic themes, in the process revealing images of economic hard times, capturing the essence of local identity, and discovering the beauty in common things through the 1940s, 50s, 60s, and 70s. New research delves into his career and the artist’s life in Connecticut. No exhibition has yet addressed these decades, which Evans spent in Connecticut as a teacher at Yale and resident of Lyme, CT.
