America the Beautiful Photo Contest
America the Beautiful Photo Contest
My husband is a member of the East Windsor Veterans Commission. They have a Facebook page if you want to look up the group. Anyway the EWVC is holding a photo contest entitled "America the Beautiful" to raise money to erect monuments to honor veterans. The forwarded email from Capt. Richard Hartman explains what is going on. I've included two attachments that hold the photo contest entry form and the contest Rules. These are also available on the Facebook page for the East Windsor Veterans Commission. We are hoping that you can help us get the word out about the contest. East Windsor is a small town and is getting no assistance from the town to fund the monuments. The group is holding various fundraisers to get to their goal of $60,000. We'd love to have some pictures that show what America the Beautiful means to people from all walks of life. Also, by entering, some talented amateur photographers will win either $500, $250 or $100.
Bruce Putinas (a member of the USS FULTON (AS-11) Association) is also a member of the East Windsor Veterans Commission. The EWVC is planning on erecting monuments in the town green to honor veterans who served in the American Revolution through the current conflict. They have raised $10,000 but have another $50,000 to go.
Putinas came up with the idea of holding a photo contest themed "America the Beautiful”. The photo contest prizes are $500, $250 and $100. Folks wishing to enter may submit their favorite photo for $10 along with an entry form that is available on the East Windsor Veterans Commission Facebook page (and also below). Official rules are also available on the EWVC Facebook page
There is no limit to the number of entries that a person may submit. $10 and an entry form for each photo. The winners will also be recognized in a commemorative book and the winning photos will be framed and hung in either the Veterans meeting room or the local American Legion.
The rules are pretty simple i.e. you must submit an original photo, you should be an amateur photographer and over the age of 21 and anything obscene will be disqualified. If you submit a picture of people and you win, we may ask the folks in the picture to sign a release as the photo will be displayed in town. "America the Beautiful" can be scenery, people, animals and nature. It's pretty much anything you think makes America beautiful to you. The deadline for entries is January 31, 2017 at 12:00PM. Simply print out the Photo Contest entry form, take, edit, and print your photos that capture the "America the Beautiful" theme, and send your original 3” X 5" or 4" X 6" prints to:East Windsor Veterans
Commission P.O. Box 191 Broad Brook, CT 06016-0191" If anyone has any questions they can contact Putinas via e-mail.Thanks in advance for your entry. Pam & Bruce Putinas pamela.putinas@att.net

Portraits, Unplugged with Bobbi Lane & Lee Varis
Working with Natural Light to Make Flattering & Dynamic Portraits
Sat & Sun October 15th & 16th, 9am-6pm
Hunt’s Photo, Melrose, MA
Recommended Prerequisite: Basic knowledge of cameras
Class Level: Beyond Basic
Portraits Unplugged is all about natural light, nothing technical or mechanical. Bobbi teaches you how to find and work with natural light to make flattering and dynamic portraits of any subject. The beauty of available light is its ability to describe your subject from powerful and strong to soft and creamy. We scout locations for the light and we look for options that can surprise us with its complexity as well as find the simple and clean look for smooth skin tones.
UnpluggedHunts-7114The most important part of our photograph is not the subject, but how we, as visual artists, choose to define our subject. We work on capturing the essence of the people by the use of posing, expressions, tonality, composition, color, backgrounds and props. Bobbi shows you how to work with all kinds of light: hard, soft, bounced, window, “garage door”, reflected, diffused, etc. Our only tools are reflectors and diffusers and we use them to manipulate the light effectively.
Lee will take the captured images to the next level with Lightroom and Photoshop enhancement techniques on skin for quick fixes and complete makeovers that don’t require special artistic talent, but instead utilize the power inherent in the basic software without extra plug-ins or extensions.
This workshop will raise your level of awareness and help you be a better natural light photographer.
Students must be familiar with their cameras and lenses. A medium telephoto lens if suggested.

Travel Vision Journeys, a photo tour company based in Arlington, is offering a fantastic photography workshop this fall. It's a perfect gift to yourself or to someone you love - see the best scenes of a New England autumn in a new light!
The workshop is called “The Ultimate 4-Day Landscape Photography Workshop” and uses the colorful fall landscapes of New England as its inspiration from October 28th through 31st.

one-day judging workshop on November 5th
Registration opens for annual small-group one-day judging workshop on November 5th
A long-running, fully participative small-group one-day workshop, So You Want To Be A Judge (or Better Understand Them) is designed to help current judges polish their skills as well as introduce others who have not yet been in the judge’s seat to the art and experience of judging and critiquing competitions. This 2016 workshop will be held only once in 2016 from 9:00am to 3:30pm on November 5, 2016 at the Cape Cod Art Association in Hyannis, MA. Led by CCAA Master Artist Bob Singer who has been a judge at PSA international salons, NECCC salons, camera clubs, art galleries and magazine competitions for over thirty years, this unique workshop interactively involves you as it refines your judging and critiquing skills, “seeing,” understanding and insights. Because judging workshop attendees come from across New England, registration for this workshop will close at noon on Friday, October 28th. Please register early as workshop participation is limited to maximize its value to attendees. Registration fee: $50.
