Friday Morning at the Summer NECCC Conference

The Summer NECCC Conference to be held on July 15-16, 2011, is rapidly approaching. I hope all of you have already registered and made your room reservations. In this periodic update on the Summer Conference I want to highlight the Friday morning activities. At this point you may be saying "Friday morning?", I thought the conference began with the first program after lunch. Actually there are a number of activities on Friday morning, most require payment of an extra fee, but one activity is free.

The free activity is assistance for first time attendees in planning their schedule. If this is your first conference you may feel overwhelmed by the large number of options. If so, Antoinette Gombeda, HonNEC, will provide help in scheduling and locating classrooms. The first session is from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Friday morning. Look for signs in the registration area for the location. For those who can't come to the Friday morning session Antoinette will hold a second session from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon across from the Registration Table in the Campus Center.

The second Friday morning activity provides an opportunity to have a portfolio of your photographs reviewed by one of New England's top photographers/judges. The cost is $40 per person for a 40 minute session with an expert. Those taking advantage of this opportunity will typically bring up to 15 images (prints and/or digital slides). You will have an opportunity to discuss your work on an individual basis which could include critique based on image composition and/or technical elements.

Third, but certainly not least, two workshops will be presented from 9 a.m. until noon. The first ($50 fee) is an Introduction to Fashion Photography presented by Lindsay Adler. Lindsay will teach you how to put together your own fashion shoot. Lindsay is the author of the new book Fashion Flair for Portrait and Wedding Photography. The second workshop ($65 fee) is Taking and Making Great Photographs by Lisa and Tom Cuchara, MNEC's. Lisa and Tom will help you improve your straight out of the camera images and your post processing Photoshop skills. For this workshop you will need your own laptop pre-loaded with Adobe Photoshop (CS4 or CS5). This workshop is aimed at beginner and intermediate users of Photoshop.

For additional information on the above activities and all the other things happening at the Summer NECCC Conference, go to our website at http://www.neccc.org/New_Outline_13.htm.

Onne van der Wal to Speak on South Georgia

On Tuesday, May 10th, the Cape Cod Viewfinders Camera Club is hosting a special presentation by Onne van der Wal entitled South Georgia Island.  The event will be begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Brewster Ladies Library, 1822 Main Street (Rte. 6A), in the center of Brewster, MA.  For those of you who may not be acquainted with South Georgia, it is an island in the Southern Ocean teaming with wildlife including sea and land birds, seals, and reindeer. In past times it was used as a base for an extensive whaling industry and remnants of that activity survive today in a number of ghost towns including the largest, Grytviken, where a museum and restored church can be found. For more information on South Georgia see http://www.sgisland.gs/index.php/Main_Page.

Onne is a member of Canon's Explorers of Light.  Today, the group is comprised of 62 of the most influential photographers and cinematographers in the world, each a master of his/her own creative specialty.  Although Onne specializes in yachting photography, he also covers private expedition documentation, travel photography, interiors, aerials, location and scenic photography, lighthouses, harbors, and all things nautical. Check out his website at www.vanderwal.com.

Cape Cod Viewfinders is inviting members of all local camera clubs to join them for this special event.  Following the presentation and Q & A, they will host a social time for members of the visiting clubs to mingle and get to know one another.  They hope that as many visitors as possible will attend the event. There is no admission fee, but seating is limited. They request that you let them know that you will be attending so that they can reserve seats for you.  Seating will be on a first come, first served basis.  Please RSVP to capedeb@comcast.net by April 11th. Ample parking is available at the library and next door at the Brewster Baptist Church.  There is a pathway from the church's back parking lot into the library's parking lot.
