Karen Davis, photographer, teacher and gallery co-owner of the Davis Orton Gallery in Hudson NY, will give a presentation at the Westport Art Group 1740 Main Road, on Friday, August 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. Karen was the juror for WAG's June photography kick off exhibit. She has taught at the Radcliffe Seminars, Lesley University and the Griffin Museum of Photography.
Her topic will be visual memoir and family fictions: photographic series and single images that reveal the family in fine art photography. Her presentation will include images of 20th and 21st artists such as Carrie Mae Weems, Larry Sultan, Sage Sohier, Philip-Lorca DiCorcia, Gregory Crewdson and Tina Barney as well as work that hasn’t made it into the history books but are worthy and help expand our vision of ways to approach these subjects. Additionally, she will offer critique of work brought by attendees to the event.
Photographers interested in learning different approaches to story and memoir should not miss this opportunity. Attendees must register at info@westportartgroup.com by August 15th. A $5 donation is suggested.
Thank you!
