PRINTING

A. Cemal Ekin, PhD (RI) Outputting from Photoshop and Lightroom
Sooner or later every photographer needs to create printed output of her or his work. Whether on an inkjet printer, printed at a photo lab, or even photo books and magazines, this process needs to be very carefully controlled if consistent quality is desired; and who would not want that? This presentation will focus on the general workflow to directly output to a printer, prepare images for lab printing, or creating magazine format publications. Given the time limitations, the emphasis will be on the disciplined workflow that the participants need to put to use in their own time, on their own equipment. Actual output examples will be provided and the process used to create them will be explained. (B, I)

PHOTO TRAVEL

John Fuller, FPSA, HonNEC, AFIAP (MA) In Search of Emperors
The Emperor Penguin is perhaps the most remote and difficult bird to reach in the world. Join John Fuller the Kapitan Khlebnikov, the famed Russian icebreaker, sails from the Falkland Islands to South Georgia Island and on to the rarely visited South Sandwich Islands. From there we cross the mostly frozen Weddell Sea to reach the Antarctic coast frozen in “fast ice” to visit colonies of Emperor Penguins. Although the Emperors are the focus, many other penguin species are encountered on this Antarctic adventure including King, Adelie, Gentoo and Chinstrap. John’s photography will bring them all to you in this “once in a lifetime” trip.

PORTRAITURE

Rick Friedman (MA) Location Lighting with Rick Friedman
As photographers, we are challenged to create a beautiful and compelling image every day for a client or ourselves. In his lecture, Rick discusses his portable location lighting techniques that enable him to capture his award winning imagery.
The lecture explores ways to create interesting lighting on location and in the studio.  Rick will share his stories of photographing and lighting some of his past subjects including Anthony Hopkins, and President Obama.  As a magazine photojournalist, his lighting is elaborate, yet practical.  The lecture includes live demonstration how Rick would use Dynalites on locations and in studio, which has been his “go-to studio strobe” throughout his career.  (Sponsored by Dynalite) (B, I)

Christina Richardson (RI) The Art of Photographing Children from 7 Days to 7 Years
With the help of her seven year old daughter and many other fast moving targets, Christina Beth has learned how to capture both candid and posed images of children. Eight years ago she started gaining experience photographing young children for friends, leading to a career as a professional photographer specializing in maternity, newborn, and child portraiture. She has also learned that different age groups require different social interaction and photography techniques.  Christina will share tips and techniques on lighting, camera settings, composition, prop selection, and gaining cooperation of children between the ages of seven days and seven years old.
