NEW ENGLAND CAMERA CLUB COUNCIL CONFERENCE
70TH ANNIVERSARY JULY 17,18,19,12015
A WEEKEND FILLED WITH FUN, FRIENDSHIP AND LEARNING

Mark your calendars – the NECCC Conference is a few short months away! This three day conference is a great weekend full of learning and fun. This anniversary year will bring lots of special things.  Friday night is the showing of the last Greater Lynn International Exhibition which will be seen in the Fine Arts Center as the only presentation for the evening followed by an ice cream social.  The main speaker for Saturday night is Ron Magill who is sponsored by Nikon. He is a world known nature photographer who works with the Miami Zoo and has been on all the TV networks as an expert.  The Photo-Op room will have many special items all weekend including “Buford” the bull dog, high–speed flash and on Saturday there will be fire-bellied frogs. Our Sunday morning event will be a Revolutionary War re-enactment with American, French and British soldiers.  There will be lots of musket fire, drums and character portraits to photograph sponsored by Hunts. There will be models, vendors, cameras and lenses to borrow from Canon, Nikon, Sigma and Tamron. Sigma will host a special digital competition which is in addition to conference competitions in digital images and prints.  Each attendee will receive a commemorative flash drive for this anniversary weekend.

More updates, registration flyer, program descriptions and speaker information will be on the NECCC website (www.neccc.org) by the middle of March.  Register early for pre-conference classes and air conditioned dorm accommodations.  If you aren’t staying on campus be sure to make a reservation at a local hotel, motel, or bed and breakfast.

John Barclay presents "Dream, Believe, Create" at The Portland Camera Club, Portland, ME

The Portland Camera Club, Portland, ME is sponsoring a special 2 hour presentation with photographer John Barclay on Monday, March 30. John is presenting his very popular "Dream, Believe, Create."

This presentation will inspire you to capture the essence of the subjects you are drawn to, using the creative medium of photography. Maybe this is capturing a small intimate portion of a scene or it could involve more creative techniques such as multiple exposures, the “slide sandwich” or camera movement for a more expressive interpretation. John will also touch on the digital darkroom, including the popular HDR technology and show you how to achieve your artistic vision. Numerous examples will be shown including traditional nature scenes as well as more abstract and urban compositions. The ideas presented in this program have application to any genre of photography. After spending a couple of hours together, you will leave inspired to create images that rise above the ordinary, feed your soul and bring great joy!

John Barclay is an award winning freelance photographer based in Bucks County, PA. A passionate photographer and enthusiastic workshop leader, he is also an inspirational speaker, presenting his program Dream – Believe – Create to audiences around the world. John’s work has been published in a number of books and magazines and is treasured by a number of private collectors. Recently, John was the recipient of an excellence award from B&W Magazine and was chosen by Dewitt Jones to participate in his www.healingimages.org program. Royce Bair Talk on Wednesday 2/18/15 Has Been Rescheduled for Wednesday 4/29/15

Hello -

We would appreciate you letting your readers/members/colleagues know about the rescheduling of this event.

Since Royce is flying across the country specifically to visit with us, since what limited parking at EP Levine's is even more limited with snowbanks everywhere, and since we will be getting even more snow tomorrow and likely Wednesday, we have rescheduled this event for Wednesday, April 29 at EP Levine.

This event if still free and open to the public, but reservations are still required to ensure we do not exceed capacity.  All tickets are currently spoken for, but we do have a wait list that people can sign up for.  Below is the link to the Eventbrite listing:
http://www.eventbrite.com/e/photographing-milky-way-nightscapes-with-royce-bair-tickets-15484218715

Those who already have a reservation do not need to do anything - your reservation still stands for the rescheduled date of 4/29.  And to those with a reservation who cannot make it on 4/29 we extend our apologies, and ask that those people cancel their reservations so that folks on the wait list can move up.

We hope to see you in April.  And we hope the snow will be gone by then.

Blurb on the talk is pasted below, and the updated postcard is attached.

Many thanks,

Erik Gehring
President, Boston Camera Club

"Photographing Milky Way Nightscapes" with Royce Bair
Wednesday, April 29, 2015, 7 pm
EP Levine, 219 Bear Hill Road, Waltham, MA

This event is free and open to the public, but registration is now required to ensure we don't exceed capacity.  Please use this link to register:
http://www.eventbrite.com/e/photographing-milky-way-nightscapes-with-royce-bair-tickets-15484218715.

We also highly encourage carpooling, as parking will be limited.

Join us for a presentation by Royce Bair on how to photograph Milky Way landscapes. Many of these unique photos are shot as one exposure, with very little digital manipulation. Although starry night landscape photography is challenging, Royce's step-by-step recipe will have you capturing great Milky Way "NightScapes" the first time you go out on your own. Bair will give a digital slide presentation, loaded with a lot of technical, how-to information, such as: planning when and where to shoot the Milky Way, forecasting, finding dark skies, calculating star alignment, choosing the right lens, exposure calculation, noise reduction techniques, light painting, and exposure blending. There will also be time for questions and answers.

BIO:
Royce Bair is a semi-retired magazine photographer who has been doing starry “NightScape” photography for three decades. His photographs have appeared in various publications such as National Geographic, Smithsonian, Reader’s Digest, and American Photo, just to name a few.  He teaches his techniques via free lectures and paid workshops. “Seeing many of my students go beyond what I have done, and use these skills to photograph the Milky Way with new landscape features is very satisfying,” reports Royce. His blog provides additional night photography techniques, where he also offers tutorials, and features the work of other night photographers: http://intothenightphoto.blogspot.com/

a two flash, flexible arm macro flash rig with an Arca Swiss type foot plate for sale

I have a two flash, flexible arm macro flash rig with an Arca Swiss type foot plate for sale. You can mount one or two flashes and bend the flexible arm(s) to the desired spot or angle that you want. Since I now have the Nikon macro flash rig, I no longer need this item, and am asking $25.00 for it. Again, prefer to deal with folks in the local New Haven/Hamden area to preclude the need for shipping, insurance, etc. If interested, you can email me at: gprestash28@comcast.net or call me at 203-288-0324.

Sigma 150-500mm f5-f6.3 telephoto lens, in Canon EF mount, for sale

I have a Sigma 150-500mm f5-f6.3 telephoto lens, in Canon EF mount, for sale.  It is a Sigma APO, DG lens with Optical Stabilization.  It is still in the box with all paperwork and has never been used.  It was a prize that I won but I use Nikon gear and I don't think my wife, who does use Canon gear, is going to do much bird photography, which this lens would be a great for if you can't afford a 600mm f4 lens.  The list price on the lens is $1,069.00 and currently there is a $200.00 rebate, bringing it down to $869.00.  I am offering my brand new, still boxed copy for $500.00.  If interested, email me at:  gprestash28@comcast.net or call me at 203-288-0324.  Currently, I would prefer to only deal with people in the general New Haven area so that we can easily get together and not have to get involved with shipping, insurance, etc.

Workshop I - Fashion Shoot from Start to Finish
By Lindsay Adler (NY)

Fashion Photography is a very creative and expressive realm of photography. In this workshop Lindsay shows photographers how to put together a fashion shoot, start to finish.  This includes preparation, styling, props, lighting, posing and post-processing. She will discuss creativity, building a team, finding a model and more. You will learn how to find inspiration for shoots and how to execute your inspiration to create successful striking images. (Program Sponsored by Sigma, Lighting Equipment supplied by Dynalite)

Workshop II - Hands on Macro: Taking Your Macro Photography to the Next Level
By Roman Kurywczak (NJ)

Roman will show you how to get the most out of your macro photography and achieve consistently good results. Overcoming distracting backgrounds and the use of natural light will be covered but a heavy emphasis will be placed on using flash correctly in the field to properly balance the exposure and achieve dramatic results.  Many of the techniques used by the pros are inexpensive and can be done using the gear you already own! High key macro photography, cross polarization, and other creative macro techniques will also be explored. Bring your camera, macro lens, and flash if you have one with a fully charged battery and fresh memory card.  Knowledge of how to change your camera settings is required to participate; bring your camera manual.  Sigma will provide a selection of loaner macro lenses for you to try out during this hands-on workshop. (Sponsored by Sigma)

Workshop III - Preserving Your Memories in a Photo Book
By Hazel Meredith, APSA, MNEC (CT)

In these days of digital images, many of us are guilty of taking lots of photos, maybe posting a few on Facebook, and then the rest just live in the dark on our computers! One great way to share your images and tell a story is to make a photo book (you know, kind of like our old photo albums!). In this workshop you will learn how to select your images, prepare them for use in your book including a very basic review of editing, cropping, and sizing (please note this class will not be about teaching you all about Photoshop!). We will utilize Shutterfly to set up your book.  You are not obligated to order from Shutterfly, but this will teach you how to choose layouts and add your photos, text and captions. Prerequisites: Bring your laptop (mouse is helpful), power cord, folder with images you would like to use, Shutterfly account, http://www.shutterfly.com/

Workshop IV - In Camera Creative Techniques
By Tony Sweet (MD)

Although software is one of the great driving forces in modern digital photography, there are many creative effects that can be accomplished in-camera, depending on the camera’s capabilities. Techniques such as HDR, multiple exposures, swipes, infrared, light painting, and extreme long exposures will be illustrated. Jumpstart your creativity in capturing images as Tony shares his visual inspiration with you, along with valuable tips, techniques and knowledge you can quickly incorporate into your own creative style. (Sponsored by Nikon)

Workshop V - Maximizing Wacom
By Shiv Verma, APSA, MNEC (MA)

This program will enable you to work more intuitively translating to an increase in productivity, resulting in a better-quality work product. We will cover how to maximize the use of Wacom tablets in Adobe Photoshop and Elements, Lightroom and a majority of the key Plug-Ins that photographers use as creative tools.
