club. Most
of the group had been members of a class in photography conducted by Norman C.
Van Ness, Assistant Curator of the museum. First show in 1938 saw 91
prints submitted. The
club met at the Museum of Natural History until 1939 when it moved to George
Walter Vincent Smith Museum.
Club
founding mission: “To
create and foster interest in the study and practice of the art of
photography”
Currently (2014) this club
has about 100 members and meets twice a month from Sept-May. We provide
members with a monthly photo competition and also provide weekend photo field
trips to photograph local historic and natural resources. We sponsor
an annual photo education program in April that provides
members and the general public with free advice on the science and artistry
of photographs presented by club members with
outstanding credentials in the world of photography.
